Screen Filter may also slow down 2D rendering. You want an app that actually turns down the backlight. It turns down the colors but leaves black unchanged, and in a dark room the backlight peeks through the black areas making them gray. I don't recommend Screen Filter for turning down the brightness on backlit devices.
